The Huskies are in the running for five-star recruit Dylan Mingo, who'll announce his commitment later this month

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team is currently looking to string together wins amidst a season that's been almost derailed with injuries and departures.

Entering Jan. 20, the Huskies are 10-8 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten play.

Washington will look to turn the season around and make its first NCAA tournament since 2019. While the team is doing that, the program will have an opportunity to preemptively take a strong step forward for the 2026-27 season.

According to a report on "X" from Jack McCauley of Dawgman.com (of the 247Sports network), the Huskies and head coach Danny Sprinkle are "right in the thick" of the recruitment for five-star combo guard Dylan Mingo.

According to McCauley's report, Mingo is planning on choosing between Washington, Penn State, Baylor and North Carolina.

Mingo was supposed to announce his commitment Thursday (Jan. 21) but has reportedly delayed it.

According to a report from Jack Barnham of 247Sports, Mingo is still expected to announce his decision by the end of January.

Mingo is ranked the fifth-best overall recruit and third-best combo guard in the country in the class of 2026 according to the 247Sports Composite. The publication's Crystal Ball predictions has him committing to Baylor. Mingo also has a brother, Kayden Mingo, attending Penn State, which led to some speculation he could join the Nittany Lions to play with his brother.

Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports' Director of Scouting, said the following of Mingo as part of his scouting report:

Mingo has been a well-known prospect since he was younger but has continued to ascend with each passing year. That rate of improvement, as well as his young age (he won’t turn 17 until October of his senior year) suggests that there could still be significant untapped potential as he continues to climb the ranks in the national class.

The Huskies currently don't have any commitments in the class of 2026 but have offers in place for several top prospects in the country.

In addition to Mingo, Washington also has offered Brandon McCoy, Mason Williams, Bruce Branch III and Jaxon Richardson.

The Huskies have also jumped in on the recruitment of the No. 1 player in the country, Tyran Stokes, who plays in UW's backyard at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle.

Washington was mentioned as one of the five teams involved in Stokes' recruitment according to a recent interview with Joe Tipton of Rivals.

The Huskies don't appear to be the favorites for either Mingo or Stokes but they're still in the mix and that might be enough to land one of the best players in the class of '26.
