The Washington Huskies men's basketball team can't afford to lose anymore games if it hopes to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive. And even that might not be enough.
The Huskies lost to the UCLA Bruins 77-73 on Feb. 7, dropping the former's overall record to 12-12 overall and 4-9 in Big Ten competition.
The loss deprived Washington of a Quad 1 win, which was much-needed due to the program's record.
A large part of the Huskies' struggles this season have been due to injuries and a front-loaded schedule that featured games against five top 25 teams in January.
Washington wasn't able to take a win off any of the aforementioned ranked teams it faced and only has one Quad 1 win in the Big Ten on its resume: a road victory against Southern California (USC) on Dec. 6.
The Huskies will likely not only need to run the table in the regular season but also earn some victories in the Big Ten postseason tournament to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament, which would be the program's first since 2019.
Luckily for Washington, the rest of its schedule lines up pretty well.
The Huskies will play Penn State at 7:30 p.m. PT on Feb. 11 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. UW will play Minnesota at 6 p.m. PT on Feb. 14 at home; Maryland at noon on Feb. 21 on the road; Rutgers at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 on the road; Wisconsin at 1 p.m. on Feb. 28 at home; USC at 7:30 p.m. on March 4 at home and Oregon at 8 p.m. on March 7 on the road.
Washington is currently 13th in the 18-team Big Ten. Two of the aforementioned opponents the Huskies have remaining on their schedule are ahead of them in conference standings: USC, which UW has already beat, and Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are 11-13 overall and 4-9 in the conference.
If Washington loses another game in its remaining schedule, it would all but certainly spell the end of its NCAA Tournament hopes, barring a miracle run to a Big Ten postseason tournament championship.
If the Dawgs don't win the postseason tournament, it would likely take the team running the table and wins against ranked opponents in the conference tourney to secure an at-large bid to the dance.
The Huskies' games against Minnesota and Maryland will both be on Peacock. The showdown against Wisconsin and Oregon will be on FOX Sports 1. The other contests will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
