The No. 24 Washington Huskies women's basketball team will have a potential season-defining game in front of them when they take on the No. 9 Ohio State Buckeyes at 6 p.m. PT on Feb. 5 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The Dawgs will enter that game with a 17-5 overall record and a 7-4 mark in Big Ten play.
The Huskies could earn their third Top 25 win of the season against the Buckeyes. UW bookmarked its January with its first two ranked wins. The first was a 64-52 win against the No. 8 Michigan Wolverines on Jan. 1 and the second was an 83-80 double-overtime win against the No. 22 Maryland Terrapins on Jan. 28.
In Washington's win against Maryland, junior guard Sayvia Sellers set a new career-high with 38 points. She also added six assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
That mark made her the first Huskies women's basketball player since Kelsey Plum in 2024 to have 35 or more points and multiple steals and blocks in a single game.
Sellers also scored 17 points, four assists, three blocks and two steals in Washington's 75-66 loss against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Feb. 1
For her efforts the previous week, Sellers was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Player of the Week for the second time this season Tuesday.
Sellers last USBWA National Player of the Week honor came on Nov. 18. In addition to her USBWA recognition, she was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week once Nov. 17.
Sellers has been Washington's most consistent and steady performer this season and has been steadily putting together an all-Big Ten-caliber this season.
This season, Sellers is averaging 19.1 points per game on 49.5% shooting from the floor. She's connected on 37.7% of her shots from 3-point range and is also averaging 3.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Her points per game are sixth in the Big Ten.
Sellers' assists per game, points per game and steals per game all lead the team. Her total amount of blocks this season (20) is second on the team behind freshman forward Brynn McGaughy (28).
Sellers' field goal percentage and 3-point percentage is also second and third on the team, respectively. Senior center Yulia Grabovskaia leads the team with a 51% mark from the floor. Sophomore guard Avery Howell and senior guard Elle Ladine are first and second on the team with 41.3% and 38.3% clips from beyond the arc, respectively.
