The University of Washington women's basketball team moved to 11-2 on Monday night by beating Northwestern 94-73 at Alaska Airlines Arena.

It was the first Big Ten win of the season for the Huskies, who are now 1-1 in league play.

In addition to the win, it was a big night for Huskies' standout Sayvia Sellers, who scored the 1,000th point of her career with a three-pointer in the first half.

Sellers, a junior from Anchorage, Alaska, had 19 points in the win. She is the 32nd member of the 1,000-point club. She's averaging 19.2 ppg this season.

About the 1,000-point club

Kelsey Plum, one of the greatest scorers in the history of college basketball (men or women), leads the way with 3,527 points. She helped lead Washington to the Final Four in her junior year and compiled a 98-41 record.

Jazmine Davis (2,227) and Jamie Redd (2,027) are both in the 2,000-point club while Giuliana Mendiola (1,928) and Talia Walton (1,817) round out the Top-5.

About the Huskies

At 11-2, Washington is hoping to put together a strong Big Ten season that will propel them back to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. The Huskies lost in the First Four a season ago and have been to the tournament just once in the last nine years, though one of those tournaments was canceled because of COVID-19.

--The UW men's basketball team defeated former Pac-12 rival Utah on Monday night as part of a doubleheader at Alaska Airlines Arena. That marks the second straight victory for UW after a disappointing loss to Seattle U before the holiday. They'll be back in action on Jan. 4 at Indiana.

--The women's basketball team will be right back in action for a quick turnaround on Thursday (Jan. 1) when they take on Michigan. That game will be played at home and Michigan is ranked No. 6 in the nation.

--The NCAA college football transfer portal opens up this week, and like all teams, Washington will be affected. However, Jedd Fisch staying at the school and not ending up at Michigan should go a long way toward helping keep the roster in tact. The Huskies went 9-4 this season, suffering losses against Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon and Wisconsin. They ended up winning the LA Bowl by defeating Boise State and should be contenders in the Big Ten in 2026.
