Despite suffering a disappointing loss, the Huskies took the time to honor the seniors who'll be leaving the program after this season
SEATTLE — The Washington Huskies women's basketball team was unable to close out its regular season home finale on a strong note.
The Huskies lost 66-65 to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
Despite the result, the results of the game were quickly flushed to make way for the team's seniors.
Washington celebrated senior night after the game against Nebraska and honored five players who are nearing the end of their respective time with the program: center Yulia Grabovskaia, guards Teagan Brown, Elle Ladine and Hannah Stines and forward Shayla Gillmer.
With the exception of Grabovskaia, who transferred to the Huskies this past offseason, the 2026 senior class represents the first recruited by UW head coach Tina Langley, who was hired ahead of the 2021-22 season.
"Our four seniors that have been here for four years, (they) came here in a time where college athletics — commitment to college athletics — became really rare," Langley said in a postgame interview Sunday. "To be at a place for four years ... we've had these young women here pouring into each other and (build) a culture. They've really changed things in such a beautiful way. And, obviously, Yulia trusted us with her final year, coming across the world, and being a huge part of the growth of our program and the culture, as well."
Brown this season has been a contributor off the bench this season. She's averaged 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 25 games (eight starts) this season.
Gillmer has appeared in 10 games off the bench for the Dawgs this season. She's scored 0.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
Grabovskaia joined Washington after spending the previous season with the Michigan Wolverines. She started 23-of-28 games this season and averaged 4.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 rebounds per game.
Stines has played in all 28 games this season and has started 27. She's been an all-around contributor and has averaged 6.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
Ladine missed the first six games of the season due to an undisclosed injury but has long since been in the starting lineup and is looking to put together a solid end to her collegiate career, which included an All-Big Ten second-team selection last season.
In 22 games (21 starts) this season, Ladine has averaged 9.7 points per game in addition to 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
The Huskies seniors and the rest of the team will likely do something that hasn't happened since the 2016-17 Kelsey Plum-led teams accomplished it: make a second-straight NCAA Tournament.
Before Washington gets to that point, it will close out its regular season against the Oregon Ducks at a to-be-determined time on March 1 at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore.
After that, the Huskies will compete in the Big Ten postseason tournament from March 4-8 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
