Second-year Huskies player Quaid Carr and fourth-year Jayden Limar will both be out after suffering injuries against Washington State.
SEATTLE ā The Washington Huskies football team entered the season with major questions at running back.
Following the Huskies' 24-10 win in the Apple Cup against the Washington State Cougars, Washington was two running backs down.
During the game, both second-year running back Quaid Carr and fourth-year running back exited due to undisclosed injuries. And it looks like those two backs will be without for an extended period of time.
Both Carr and Limar suffered unspecified hand/arm surgeries, per comments from head coach Jedd Fisch in a weekly news conference. Carr's injury is closer to his hand while Limar's is closer to his elbow.
Carr will undergo surgery for his injury and both running backs are expected to miss an extended period of time, per the third-year head coach.
In their stead, sixth-year running back and Troy transfer Trey Cooley and true freshman running back Brian Bonner will be the top two running backs on the depth chart.
Bonner's fellow true freshman, Ansu Sanoe, is also anticipated to receive a significant amount of snaps.
Fisch said he was unsure if either Carr or Limar would be out for the season, but knows they'll be "out for a while."
Limar had an 11-yard touchdown run that resulted in the eventual final of 24-10.
"We've got seven (running backs)," Fisch said in a weekly news conference Monday. "So I'm glad that we made the decision to bringing in Trey Cooley because we thought that you always have to be aware of the running back room. First time in six years that I've had these type of two pretty significant injuries in the same room. I can't think of that happening often, but it does happen sometimes."
Second-year running back Ryken Moon is also expected to received an increased number of snaps and fourth-year tight end Kade Eldridge, who played a significant amount of running back in high school.
The running back room has seen a significant amount of turnover and injuries over the last year. The team's leading rusher from 2025, Jonah Coleman, was selected by the Denver Broncos in the 2026 NFL Draft. The second-leading rusher from the running back room, Adam Mohammed, transferred to the Cal Golden Bears (and had 166 total yards and a touchdown in his first game with his new team).
Since then, in addition to Limar and Carr's injuries, the projected leading back going into the offseason, Jordan Washington, suffered a neck injury that has left his status this season in doubt.
The running back room will likely be a continued point of adjustment for the team throughout the season until UW finds some level of consistency.
