The Penn State job is open. The LSU job is open. The Florida job is open. While Fisch hasn't been necessarily linked to any of those jobs directly, he would be wise to stay at Washington for a while.

On Sunday, it was reported that LSU is set to fire head football coach Brian Kelly. That marks the third major legacy college job to open up this season, alongside Penn State and Florida. There's more if you include Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Virginia Tech, who all play in power conferences as well.

And while we haven't seen Washington head coach Jedd Fisch's name directly attached to any of those openings yet, I have a word of advice for Fisch: Stay at Washington. Don't chase those jobs, and don't seek to backfill the jobs of any one else that may take those jobs.

Why?

Simply put? Washington is an aspirational job in its own right. Most college coaches spend their careers climbing the ladder, but Washington is already nearly at the top of that ladder.

Washington has proven to be a place that you can win, with the Huskies having participated in two different College Football Playoffs and getting to one CFP title game, which was just two seasons ago.

Furthermore, with the program now in the Big 10, it has the gravitas and allure of an elite conference. That means there's ample exposure, revenue and NIL opportunities. Not to mention the ability to play the best teams in the country, consistently. That's what coaches want. Fisch already has it.

Additionally

Being on the West Coast should give Washington, and Fisch, an advantage. Does he really want to go to an SEC school and recruit the same kids as all the other SEC powers? Does he want to go Penn State and recruit the same Midwest kids as Ohio State and Michigan?

While Washington is in direct competition with Oregon and USC in the Big 10, Fisch has more access to kids in Washington, California and Hawaii, all football hot beds. He has the ability to continue to keep competing at Washington for years to come.

Anyone can win

Back in the BCS-era, it used to be thought that you could only win at a handful of schools. Now? Because of the CFP playoff, and the expanding nature of it, it's easier to get to major bowl games, and easier to advance within the playoff. You no longer have to go chase the ability to win games, you can do so where you are.

Money

According to USA Today, Fisch is already one of the highest-paid coaches in the country, so he doesn't need to leave in order to chase dollars.

Washington's Jedd Fisch is the No. 22 highest-paid coach in college football, according to USA TODAY's 2025 compensation survey. The Huskies coach is set to earn a total of $7,575,024, not including bonuses, which ranks No. 9 in the Big Ten Conference.

Up next

At 6-2 on the season, the Huskies are off this upcoming Saturday. They'll take on Wisconsin on Nov. 8.
