The Dallas Cowboys agreed to make their placekicker the highest paid in NFL history days before the draft.
Just days before Thursday’s NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys made a splash move to secure their All-Pro kicker. The Cowboys and kicker Brandon Aubrey agreed to a four-year extension that will make him the highest-paid kicker in league history, and the first to earn $7 million per year with a total $28 million deal with $20 million guaranteed. It’s a historic contract that sets the record for the most expensive kicker ever, one that Dallas feels is decidedly worth it in Aubrey. After deciding to become a placekicker in 2022 after a storied soccer career, Aubrey signed with the Cowboys in 2023 after a season with USFL Birmingham Stallions. The 30-year-old has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons with the team.
Aubrey has hit 88.2 percent of his career field goal attempts, going 112-of-125. Last season, Aubrey hit 36 of his 42 attempts for Dallas, good for an 85.7 field goal make percentage. It’s been a process both sides have wanted to get done since Cowboys COO/co-owner Stephen Jones referred to talks as “a journey” at the NFL Combine. Finally, on the Monday of draft week, the two sides found a way to keep Aubrey in Dallas for the long-term future.
Here is the full story from Cowboys Roundtable writer Mike Fisher on the historic deal for the elite kicker.
Dallas now has their placekicker through 2029, one that is a legitimate weapon for the franchise, and one that was a priority to get done in free agency this offseason. Now, the team can set their sights on a long-term deal with star receiver George Pickens.
