The Dallas Mavericks shipped a haul of players off to the Washington Wizards, including star Anthony Davis who they acquired in the Luka Doncic trade.

The Dallas Mavericks are turning the page on the Anthony Davis era, who was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers for Luka Doncic nearly a year ago to the date. They’ve clearly settled into a vision that looks to build a young core around rookie sensation Cooper Flagg through the draft – but prior to Wednesday, June’s NBA draft was the last the Mavs would control their first round pick in until 2031. They helped recoup some capital in a blockbuster deal with Washington Wizards, trading 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Wizards in exchange for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round picks, and three second rounders.

For Dallas, it’s a clear sign of moving on with ammo and younger players to shape the core around Flagg. And somehow, they were able to pull off a better deal for the perennially injured Davis than what they got in return for Doncic.

For Washington, it’s the second splash trade they’ve made this season after already acquiring Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks, and they added a considerable haul of talent around him in this latest trade. Now, they can pair Davis with Young around a young lineup including Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George and Bub Carrington. They just won’t immediately see those dividends, as Davis remains sidelined with a hand injury.

Here is the full story from Wizards Roundtable writer Ahmed Ghafir on the second splash move by Washington this season and what their exciting future is shaping up to be.

It doesn’t erase all that was undone by Dallas in trading away Doncic, but the haul of draft capital certainly points to a brighter future around superstar Flagg.
