Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is at the center of more legal troubles after an ex-girlfriend filed a civil lawsuit in Texas this week, accusing the receiver of disturbing domestic violence with multiple alleged assaults. The incidents allegedly occurred over an 18-month span from 2023 to 2025. His ex said that she was pregnant during multiple assaults. It includes an allegation of Rice strangling her in December of 2023 among multiple incidents.
"Rice has grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as hit her with inanimate objects," the lawsuit says.
The behavior was said to occur through their entire relationship that ended in July of 2025. It also said that Rice locked her out of the apartment, punched walls, and broke furniture. It certainly could put Rice’s availability in question for the upcoming season, particularly with a history of conduct violations in the league.
Here is the full story from Chiefs Roundtable writer Bob McCullough on the ramifications for Kansas City and Rice both on and off the field.
Rice was suspended for the first six games of the 2025 season due to his role in an injurious street racing incident in which multiple other passengers in vehicles suffered. That could play a role in the league’s assessment of penalties and potential suspensions in a second incident that violates the Personal Conduct Policy in two seasons. The allegations originally surfaced in posts by his ex on Instagram last month that included photos of bruises, scratches, and damaged property while indirectly alleging that Rice was the abuser.
