MLB fans are all looking up this latest hand injury that has now taken down three stars in the league ahead of spring training.

In the span of 24 hours, it was announced that three MLB stars have suffered broken hamate bones ahead of Spring Training and Opening Day. The first was New York Mets’ Francisco Lindor in his left hamate bone, who is evaluating surgery options for the lingering “on and off” issue for years. Then, Baltimore Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias announced that second baseman Jackson Holliday has a broken hamate bone in his right hand, and he will undergo surgery Thursday that will put him out of Opening Day. Holliday suffered the injury during batting practice, one that happens to hitters quite often – though the timing of all at once draws notice.

The third announcement is that Arizona Diamondbacks star outfielder Corbin Carroll also broke the hamate bone in his right hand and will undergo surgery Wednesday, according to ESPN, that will put him out of the World Baseball Classic and leave his Opening Day status up in the air. The two-time All-Star and former NL Rookie of the Year also broke his hamate bone during batting practice.

Here is the full story from Orioles Roundtable writer Joey Mistretta on the disappointing update out of Baltimore.

Carroll was slated to play left field for Team USA in the WBC, leaving only three outfielders on the roster. His timeline is not clear, though the injury typically takes four to six weeks to recover from, with some hitters needing months to regain their grip strength and power. Fans of the Mets, Orioles, and Diamondbacks will all be hoping for the former timeline.
