The Seattle Seahawks are now in a world of uncertainty after Sam Darnold went down in their opening series.

The reigning Super Bowl champions defended their title against the New England Patriots in Week 1, but the Seattle Seahawks didn’t do so without a major cost.

Quarterback Sam Darnold exited following the opening series on Wednesday night’s NFL season opener after being sacked on third down. He limped off the field and never returned after being quickly ruled out.

Thankfully, the initial CT scan ruled out a fracture, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Darnold is scheduled for an MRI on Thursday after the initial CT was inconclusive.

It puts his status for their first divisional matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 20 in question.

To read about some potential options that Seattle could look to sign ahead of that, here is the full story from Seahawks Roundtable writer Nathan Karseno.

In his place came in Drew Lock, who threw for 187 yards and one touchdown off the bench cold while generating no turnovers.

It took a while for him to find a rhythm, but the Seahawks’ skill players stepped up, notably Jaxon Smith-Njigba who ran for a 45-yard score to tie the game up.

Then the Seattle defense took over and intercepted Patriots’ quarterback Drake Maye on three consecutive drives to seal the victory.

It wasn’t a pretty victory, and the sloppiness of the season opener showed with seven penalties by the defending champs.

But the grittiness that secured them a win in Super Bowl LX was on full display, and that was impressive with an early injury to their championship-winning signal caller.
