The reigning MVP broke an NBA record in an impressive win for the OKC Thunder.

Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made NBA history in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 104-102 win, one that kept their top seed standing in the West over the No. 2 seed in the East, the Boston Celtics. The Thunder superstar eclipsed a mark held by Wilt Chamberlain, a record that he’d help for more than six decades, by scoring at least 20 points in 127 straight regular season games. In that consecutive streak, OKC’s record is 103-24, including Thursday night’s victory. Gilgeous-Alexander reached the record with ease, with 7:04 left in the third quarter. When he hit the jumper, the crowd roared and he received a standing ovation in the next timeout with MVP chants abound as the video board recognized his historic accomplishment.

Gilgeous-Alexander ultimately finished with 35 points and nine assists and has averaged 32.5 points per game in the 127 games. The streak started back on Nov. 1, 2024. It puts Gilgeous-Alexander on track to break potentially another truly historic NBA record held by a legend. Currently ranking second in the league averaging 31.8 points per game this season, Gilgeous-Alexander is pacing to be the first player to score at least 30 points in four straight seasons since the legendary Michael Jordan. Impressively, no other player in the league has scored 20 points in 80 straight games.

Here is the full story from Thunder Roundtable writer Brandon Rahbar on Gilgeous-Alexander’s comments as he reflected on his historic night.

The great thing is that the streak has coincided with real winning for Oklahoma City, and that makes it easier to celebrate as it not only hasn’t come at the expense of his team, but has seemed to elevate the squad as they continue to reign supreme atop the Western Conference.
