The San Francisco 49ers' defensive lineman is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a shooting thought to be non career-threatening.

Hours after attending Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White was the victim of a shooting and is recovering from a gunshot wound to his ankle sustained early Monday morning in San Francisco. His injuries are not considered career-threatening, and the Niners announced that he underwent successful surgery at a local hospital Monday afternoon. Police responded to a shooting on Mission Street around 4:06 am local time, and no arrests have been made in what is an open and active investigation by the San Francisco Police Department.

It marks the second time a San Francisco 49er has been shot in the last 18 months. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest in an attempted robbery in August of 2024, with the teenage suspect awaiting trial in juvenile court. Pearsall missed the first six games of his rookie season. White has been with the Niners since a trade with the New England Patriots, who White watched lose to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl, on Oct. 29. He appeared in 11 games, including the postseason, with 16 tackles. 2.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery.

Here is the full story from 49ers Roundtable writer Alec Elijah on the scary situation.

The team confirmed that they will provide further updates when appropriate. SFPD released in a statement that preliminary findings revealed a verbal altercation between two groups inside a business preceded the shooting. There is no timeline for White’s recovery, but early findings are optimistic that he’ll be able to return for the upcoming season.
