Should the 49ers consider Omarion Miller next offseason?

No question about it: the San Francisco 49ers’ wide receivers have been plagued by injuries. As a result, they must address the position in the 2027 NFL Mock Draft. Fortunately for them, an elite receiver class awaits. One being Arizona State wide receiver Omarion Miller. His combination of athleticism, efficient route-running, and contested-catch prowess makes him a first-round contender. The two sides are gaining traction as PFSN analyst Cameron Sheath added Miller in his first-round 2027 NFL Mock Draft.

Before we begin, remember that these mocks aren’t intended to be accurate. This isn’t a prediction that the 49ers will draft Miller. Plenty will change during the season, so it’s far too soon to say anything definitive. Still, these exercises are important to help the fanbase identify talented prospects who could resurface next offseason.

Having said that, let's dive into Omarion Miller and his fit with the 49ers.

“De’Zhaun Stribling’s early second-round draft capital didn’t stop the 49ers from bringing back Deebo Samuel Sr. after Pearsall’s latest injury setback, which is telling,” Sheath wrote. “Miller’s 6.4 yards after the catch per reception in 2025 suggests he’d be perfect for Kyle Shanahan and a seamless successor to Samuel in the slot.”

Sheath noted Ricky Pearsall’s season-ending knee injury, but he didn’t include the setbacks suffered by Mike Evans, De’Zhaun Stribling, Christian Kirk, and Jacob Cowing. The latter four won’t miss significant time, but the quantity is still notable. They must address the position if the unit can’t stay healthy in 2026. Because of this, Omarion Miller is an enticing target.

Miller’s A-list trait is his overpowering athleticism. The six-foot-two, 210-pound senior is a smooth mover and has threatening vertical speed. Additionally, he’s a rapid accelerator, reaching top gear almost immediately. He doesn’t have elite short-area quickness, but he compensates with his efficient route running. Miller’s cuts are exceptional, and he hardly loses any speed. He expertly stems defenders and thrives at using tempo to create separation.

This athleticism allows Miller to dominate contested catch situations, particularly in the red zone. He excels at highpointing the ball and plucking it from the air before the defender has a chance. He’s unfazed by contact and consistently reels it in. This makes him a valuable option for the quarterback who can win one-on-one situations.

Even with this, Omarion Miller isn’t a perfect prospect. His aforementioned short-area quickness needs work. Similarly, he must eliminate focus drops. If he does, Miller will undoubtedly be in first-round conversations next offseason. He’s an enticing option who could be a dangerous weapon in Kyle Shanahan’s offense for the foreseeable future.
