It's never too early for a mock draft

The San Francisco 49ers are under two weeks away from their regular season opener. This makes it the final opportunity for a preseason 2027 NFL Mock Draft. In this three-round exercise, they infuse the roster with dynamic talent on both sides of the ball.

First off, it’s important to remember the goal of these preseason mock drafts. They aren’t trying to predict the 49ers' strategy next April; instead, they’re meant to identify talented prospects who could resurface next April. Keep that in mind during the season.

That said, let's keep the intro brief and dive into a 49ers three-round mock draft.

Round One: KJ Duff- WR, Rutgers

KJ Duff is arguably the most dominant receiver in college football with his superhuman frame, staggering physicality, and secure hands. The six-foot-six, 225-pound junior bullies smaller defensive backs in contested catch situations and is deceptively quick, which helps him create separation. Beyond this, he’s a stellar blocker and eliminates his matchup on outside zone runs.

The 49ers are an ideal landing spot for Duff because of Mike Evans. The 12-year veteran is a perfect mentor for the rookie as the two play an eerily similar role. Duff, while still contributing, could sit behind him before taking the reins. He’s a great fit in Kyle Shanahan’s offense and would give Brock Purdy another reliable weapon to target.

Round Two: Damon Wilson II- EDGE, Miami

Damon Wilson is a JUICED-up athlete who uses his elite first step and agility to threaten the opposing tackle. He thrives at converting speed to power and has a full arsenal of pass rush moves at his disposal. He’s still developing as a run defender and is occasionally beaten by tight ends, but he has star potential in the NFL.

Raheem Morris’ defensive line has talent, headlined by Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams. However, they’ve been cursed by injuries and can’t be relied upon to be available. As a result, it makes sense to invest heavy capital in the position and ensure that a dynamic pass rusher is on the field.

Round Three: Trevor Lauck- OT, Iowa

Few schools in the nation produce offensive line talent like Iowa, and Trevor Lauck is no exception. The six-foot-five, 315-pound left tackle had an impressive 2025 campaign, giving up only six pressures and zero sacks in his first year of starting. He’s an outstanding athlete and is a bulldozer as a run blocker, paving the way for his running back. Lauck’s footwork needs improvement, as elite pass rushers can exploit it, but he has the makings of a future NFL tackle.

Trent Williams has held down this position for the 49ers recently. But the 38-year-old is entering the twilight stage of his career, meaning Kyle Shanahan must find his replacement. If they turn to the draft, then Lauck will be an enticing option.
