There are some major tests happening this week in college football.

The college football season can seem overwhelming for fans with countless matchups each week. As a result, it's challenging for NFL fans to watch potential prospects, as numerous options are playing. To help narrow this down, here are three matchups that San Francisco 49ers fans must watch in week six.

This isn’t a list of the top players. Instead, it’s meant to mimic the 49ers’ potential draft board and identify players who could resurface in April. Some of them are first-round options, while others are day-three sleepers with make-or-break matchups ahead.

That said, let’s dive into three matchups the 49ers must watch during the upcoming college football slate.

Ryan Coleman-Williams vs. Ellis Robinson IV

Alabama wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams was criticized last year for inconsistent showings; however, he’s been more reliable in 2026. The six-foot, 184-pound junior has 20 receptions for 376 yards and four touchdowns and is the primary weapon in a high-octane Crimson Tide offense.

On the other side, cornerback Ellis Robinson IV has been stellar for Georgia. He’s already tallied an interception, four pass breakups, and a passer rating of 54.7 when targeted. He’s a superb athlete and can shut down opposing receivers in man coverage.

Both prospects are receiving first-round hype. It’s a marquee matchup and will play a major role in their evaluation come April. The 49ers should be tuned in, as each player is an intriguing option who fills a major positional need.

Niki Prongos vs. Boubacar Traore

This is an underrated matchup between two ultra-athletic, yet raw players. Stanford left tackle Niki Prongos didn’t play football until his senior year of high school, but he has quickly developed into an NFL prospect.

Conversely, Notre Dame edge rusher Boubacar Traore was a consensus four-star recruit, but injuries derailed his first few seasons. Now, the six-foot-five, 253-pound senior is back on track, tallying 2.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss in 2026.

Currently, Traore is the higher-graded prospect. However, each has first-round upside and could solidify their stock with impressive performances. Not many fans will closely watch Notre Dame vs. Stanford, but the 49ers must tune in to this matchup.

Lance Heard vs. Princewill Umanmielen

Kentucky offensive tackle Lance Heard vs. LSU edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen is a heavyweight matchup between two of the nation’s best players.

On one side, Heard is a violent, athletic prospect whose dominance as a run blocker and pass-blocking prowess make him a promising Trent Williams successor. On the other side sits Umanmielen, the nation’s leader in sacks (8) and tackles for loss (10). The triple-threat pass rusher uses his unparalleled athleticism, flexibility, and refinement to provide pressure.

Both prospects will undeniably be high on the 49ers’ draft board. But the winner of this battle’s stock will skyrocket. Beyond this, it will be a key domino deciding this game.
