It's never too early for a mock draft.
Why not make another preseason mock draft for the San Francisco 49ers? In this three-round 49ers mock draft, they help build depth at injury-riddled positions and find dynamic options who could anchor the team for the foreseeable future.
Before we begin, it’s important to remember that this mock isn’t intended to predict next April, as countless things will change during the season. Instead, this article is meant to show 49ers fans some talented prospects and questionable positions to watch throughout the year.
With that said, let's keep the introduction short and sweet and dive into a three-round, 49ers mock draft.
Round One: Matayo Uiagalelei- EDGE, Oregon
Matayo Uiagalelei has the prototypical size, strength, and athleticism to produce in the NFL. The six-foot-five, 272-pound senior converts speed-to-power well and uses violent hand usage, helping him shed opposing linemen. This, plus his agility to split blocks, allows him to penetrate the backfield and blow up plays. He’s still developing as a pass rusher, relying on pure athleticism rather than a pass-rush plan. However, he’s still a talented player and could see himself in the first round next year.
The 49ers must consider adding another edge rusher during the draft. Nick Bosa is a bona fide star and 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams has potential; but, both have been plagued by injuries. As a result, investing in another dynamic option would be wise and help the group’s consistency throughout the year.
Round Two: Junior Sherrill- WR, Vanderbilt
Junior Sherrill’s twitchiness and explosiveness after the catch make him an underrated star who’s poised to break out onto the national landscape in 2026. The five-foot-11, 200-pound senior creates separation by expertly using tempo in his routes. Additionally, he effectively stems defenders and attacks their leverage. He needs to expand his route tree and eliminate focus drops, but he’s a talented player who can be an impactful player in the NFL.
Similar to the edge rushers, the 49ers' receiver room has health questions. 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall suffered a season-ending injury earlier this offseason, and the rest of the unit has been banged up in training camp. Thus, adding another reliable yet dynamic option would elevate Kyle Shanahan’s offense and give Brock Purdy another weapon.
Round Three: Dashawn Spears- S, LSU
Dashawn Spears is a projection, as he only logged 255 snaps last year, but he pairs elite physicality and size with exceptional athleticism. His sturdy frame, six-foot-three, 209 pounds, lets him battle against stronger defenders in the run game. Beyond this, he has superb range in coverage and the versatility to play anywhere on the field.
The 49ers don’t have a defined top safety duo. Malik Mustapha, Marques Sigle, and Ji’Ayir Brown are all contenders, but none are currently Pro Bowl caliber. So, finding a high-potential prospect in Dashawn Spears would elevate the group and give defensive coordinator Raheem Morris a chess piece to use.
