The San Francisco 49ers have already been fairly active during NFL free agency, making several additions while also bringing back a number of their own players.
So far this offseason, San Francisco has added six players from outside the organization. The most notable move was the signing of veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, who agreed to a three-year deal to join the 49ers after spending the first 12 seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In addition to Evans, the 49ers also made a major move to bolster their defensive front by trading for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa from the Dallas Cowboys. The team also reunited with linebacker Dre Greenlaw after he was released by the Denver Broncos.
San Francisco added depth along the offensive line as well, signing offensive tackle Vederian Lowe and versatile lineman Brett Toth. Another defensive addition came in the secondary with the signing of cornerback Nate Hobbs.
Along with those outside additions, the 49ers also retained several of their own players.
The team re-signed kicker Eddy Piñeiro to a multi-year extension, making him the only player so far this offseason to receive a deal longer than one year. San Francisco also brought back long snapper Jon Weeks, linebacker Garret Wallow, tight end Jake Tonges, running back Patrick Taylor, offensive tackle Austen Pleasants, and defensive end Sam Okuayinonu. Okuayinonu returned on a restricted free agent tender.
There have also been several departures for San Francisco during free agency. Defensive lineman Jordan Elliott signed with the Tennessee Titans, while wide receiver Kendrick Bourne joined the Arizona Cardinals. Former 49ers receiver Skyy Moore reportedly signed with the Green Bay Packers, and offensive lineman Matt Hennessy landed with the Dallas Cowboys.
Elsewhere, defensive lineman Robert Beal Jr. signed with the Miami Dolphins, while veteran pass rusher Bryce Huff announced his retirement.
Free agency could slow down as teams evaluate the market heading into the next wave of signings. One name still to watch for San Francisco is wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who remains one of the most notable free agents still available.
Around the league, another interesting storyline involves star receiver A.J. Brown. According to reports, the Los Angeles Rams are monitoring his situation after previously exploring a potential trade before acquiring cornerback Trent McDuffie.
While Friday and Saturday could be a quieter days for signings across the NFL, there are still several storylines developing around the 49ers and the rest of the league as free agency continues.
