Owner Jed York reveals his hopes for star receiver Brandon Aiyuk's return, balancing talent with contingency plans for the Niners' future.
The San Francisco 49ers have had quite a situation on their hands with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The Niners receiver has been a difficult man to find.
Earlier this year, 49ers general manager John Lynch shared that Aiyuk's time as a Niner might be done, but San Francisco owner Jed York is hopeful for a return. York updated his expectations when it comes to the once productive receiver.
"When you look at the group of people that is there, especially adding guys like Mike and Christian who are legit veteran people, that's a room that can absorb somebody that has had a tough go with our franchise for the last year or so. I think we're making sure that that room is what it needs to be. And if BA's a part of that room, we're going to be more talented, and I have no problem with that. I hope he's doing well personally, and I hope I get to see him soon.
BA is a very talented guy, would love to be able to bring him back into the fold. And if not, I think he's a valuable asset that other people would want, and we're going to make sure that we get value and we bring talent into our building."

Junfu Han-USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesAiyuk was productive in his time on the field with the Niners, but that almost seems like awhile ago. The talented receiver has been sidelined with injury for a while now, and San Francisco can ill afford to count on him returning for next season as part of its 2026 plans. Nevertheless, he's the type of player they want to return for a postseason run next year. York is open to that possibility. That said, the 49ers also have contingincies.
Say what you will about San Francisco wide receiver addition Mike Evans, but Evans is a massive help to the team's offensive explosion. How long he can perform at a peak level is up for debate, but one can easily see the receiver having a strong campaign his next time on the field. Add in the dynamic duo of tight end George Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey and the Niners are set to have a good offense. Should Aiyuk return, it would simply be icing on the cake.
There's no telling whether or not Aiyuk will come back for another season with the 49ers, but although they are preparing to play without him in 2026, York is making it clear they'd like to have him back.
