From a historic opener in Australia to a high-stakes gauntlet against AFC powerhouses, see why a balanced schedule paves the way for another twelve-win season in Santa Clara.

The San Francisco 49ers schedule is now set for the 2026 season. And save for a to be determined time slot for the season finale we know when and where the 49ers will play.

The Niners are set to face a well-balanced schedule when you break it into four game increments. The NFL did a reasonably good job making the schedule not too overwhelming for the team with more winnable matchups mixed in with the challenging ones.

The first set of games sees the 49ers take on the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia before three straight home games against the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos. The Rams (12-5) and Broncos (14-3) were expected to be among the tougher games of the season, but the level playing field in Australia against Los Angeles and the home game against the Broncos gives the Niners a chance to go 4-0 in that stretch. Count us among those that think the 49ers go 3-1 in that stretch.

The next four games see the Niners travel to the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, host the Washington Commanders, go to Atlanta to take on the Falcons and take on the Raiders following a bye week. The Niners may be likely to drop the road game to the Seahawks but should win the next three to get to 6-2 after Week 9.

The next four games could provide a sneaky test. San Francisco faces the Dallas Cowboys on the road before taking on the improved Minnesota Vikings in Mexico. Then they host the Seattle Seahawks before facing a Giants team that could be on the rise. The 49ers will play the Giants at 10 a.m. PT meaning an early morning of warmups for the players. Look for the Niners to go 2-2 in that stretch to get to 8-4.

The final five games of the season are difficult but winnable. The 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams before going on the road to face the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs. Then they come home to face the Philadelphia Eagles and end the season in Arizona against the rebuilding Cardinals.

The Chargers could end up contenders, but, like the Eagles, struggled against top competition last season. The Chiefs have plenty of uncertainty of their own with Patrick Mahomes II returning from injury at quarterback. It's reasonable to see the Niners drop one of the five games, but the team finishes 12-5 on the year.

The 49ers have a tough schedule, but it is spaced out well enough to give the team a chance to duplicate its 2025 record. The Niners will look to have a better postseason should they get there in January.
