Purdy reveals mechanical adjustments and mindset shifts fueling his drive to power the 49ers through intense playoff battles.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has not been the quarterback we have been accustomed to seeing in his return from injury. His slow start is perhaps to be expected and not necessary his fault, but Purdy understands his game will need to elevate for the Niners to reach their ultimate goals.

The Niners quarterback shared where he can improve as a passer.

"I think there's been moments where I've got to in the past where, like I've said, drive the ball. Mechanically, I want to continue to strive for just my accuracy and stuff. I feel like there's been moments where I can be better with that. You know, as a whole, this whole year it's really just been about my toe and getting healthy and feeling like myself again.

So, having a week to rest up and then coming back this week and having a couple of practices under my belt just feels good, and it feels fresh. But, more than anything, it's continuing to play with the chip on my shoulder and going back and watching the situational football moments that we were in and the games that I've been in so far. And I think for me it's in the end of the stretch here, four games, regular season, how can I be better? And I thought the last game in Cleveland was a pretty good test for me to take care of the ball, be smart with it, throw it away, and then stay on the field when we can. So, I don't know. That's what I watched, and that's what I saw."

Purdy has been afforded the blessing of a great defense. The 49ers have been able to make do with Purdy putting up passing totals in the 170-yard range while still staying in the win column. But to defeat the best of the best, including the team's divisional rival Los Angeles Rams, 170 yards is not going to be good enough to guarantee victory. The team needs more production.

Presumably Purdy will get there. He hasn't forgot how to play football, but the mechanical side of it, which he acknowledged, is where he could stand to improve as the season progresses.

The Niners are good enough to get to the playoffs with this version of Purdy, a still solid player and for now a good game manager. But they will need more from the signal caller to reach the upper echelon of the sport. Purdy will look to make strides toward his ceiling this week.
