Ex-49ers Receiver Gives Clear Advice to Brandon Aiyuk cover image

A former Niners star shares crucial guidance for Brandon Aiyuk's career crossroads, urging intentional decisions and the right support system.

Brandon Aiyuk has been a story of the offseason in San Francisco. The 49ers receiver, who has been absent from the Niners facility of late, has seemingly opted to choose not to fulfill his contract if some are to be believed

The Niners receiver signed a four-year contract around $120 million not long ago, but the word from San Francisco is that Aiyuk has not only foregone rehab sessions but chosen not to honor other parts of his contract. For that reason we have not seen the player on the field for the better part of two seasons. It raises significant questions about Aiyuk's future with the team.

Undoubtedly frustrated, the Niners still want the talented pass catcher to be part of the team moving forward. Former 49ers wide receiver Stevie Johnson shared his advice to Aiyuk in an interview with Kyle Odegard of casino.org. Johnson made his opinion clear.

“Keep the friends you’ve got, because it’s hard to say, ‘I’m done with y’all,’ but I would direct my friendship group during the season to be very intentional. Have your trainer, your chef, your body therapist, your barber. If you’ve got kids, have them around, but make it intentional for those eight months. That’s where you start. He’s got the talent to play the game, but it’s the decision-making. Sometimes we be trippin’ as players. We’re getting paid. We know we’re getting a check every week and we’re on TV. We feel like we’re everything, and anything we think should work. But that’s not really true. You need to have that mentor. I don’t think he had the strength in his circle to help him with certain decisions. My advice would be to find the right people around you.”

While Aiyuk's friends have not been the topic of discussion for much of his absence from the team, they are a logical place to look to bring the talented pass catcher back in the fold. Certainly, if Aiyuk is choosing to risk his career with the Niners there is probably a friend in his circle if not several who are telling him he is making a great decision.

Who Aiyuk is willing to listen to is up for debate, but the Niners organization would be well served to find someone who can bridge the gap between the receiver and the team. San Francisco will hope to have him back for the 2026 season.
