Despite past production, this productive veteran receiver finds NFL teams strangely silent, his contract demands a significant roadblock to a new home.

It has been quite the wide receiver offseason for the San Francisco 49ers. Receivers looking to depart for better are not faring too well.

We have written ad nauseam about Brandon Aiyuk's preoccupation with other things than helping the Niners win football games, but another receiver looking for greener pastures is simply not finding that perfect fit either.

Free agent and 2025 San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings is viewed as a player who performed above his ability the last couple of seasons despite seeking a bigger contract. Oliver G of 49ers Wire wrote about the lack of interest Jennings is receiving on the free agent market.

"The 49ers aren't bringing Jennings back, and it doesn't seem like any team has real interest in signing the productive veteran receiver either. ...

This checks out, considering the contract negotiations Jennings and the 49ers had before the 2025 season ended. He requested a trade or a new contract in 2025, but the 49ers only brought him back on a deal with additional incentives. Spotrac projected a three-year, $67.84 million contract for Jennings this offseason that would pay around $22.61 million a year, but no such deal has materialized.

The only true reports that have come out around Jennings are the 49ers' disinterest in bringing him back and now this rumor about his contract demands. That doesn't bode well for Jennings this offseason, especially as teams prepare for the 2026 draft where they can find cheaper and younger offensive talent."

Whether you agree with the notion or not, the Niners have proven capable of developing a higher volume of wide receivers that come through their organization than the average NFL franchise. While some have perhaps slipped through the cracks, players like Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings have left the Niners as better or far more productive players than expected when they signed with the team.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan develops receivers. The volume with which previously unknown pass catchers have worked out in Shanahan's offense is staggering, and almost on the same level as the 2000s Saints were with the likes of Marques Colston and Devery Henderson.

San Francisco finds a way to make unknown players work. That said, other NFL teams may not be able to maximize their talent like the Niners have. For that reason, Jennings may not be seeing the interest he believes he deserves.

We'll monitor where Jennings ends up for the 2026 season.
