Jayden Daniels Pushes for Reunion with Brandon Aiyuk cover image

After Jayden Daniels' interview this past week, rumors have begun to swirl about a reunion between Brandon Aiyuk and Daniels in Washington.

As the offseason begins across the NFL, roster speculation is already heating up, and one potential storyline involves the Washington Commanders possibly targeting a familiar face for quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The young passer has hinted he’d welcome former college teammate Brandon Aiyuk if the wide receiver ultimately parts ways with the San Francisco 49ers following a turbulent contract situation.

Daniels and Aiyuk built strong chemistry during their time with the Arizona State Sun Devils football, most notably in 2019 when Daniels delivered nearly 3,000 passing yards while Aiyuk eclipsed 1,100 receiving yards.

Their on-field connection, combined with an ongoing friendship, has fueled speculation that Daniels is quietly lobbying for a reunion at the pro level.

The receiver’s future in San Francisco appears increasingly uncertain, and if fans recall before Aiyuk's second contract with the 49ers, there was legitimate interest in signing with the Commanders.

After suffering significant knee injuries during the 2024 season, Aiyuk’s rehabilitation period reportedly strained his relationship with the team.

The situation escalated when guaranteed money in his contract was voided, widely interpreted as a sign that both sides were ready to move on.

During a recent appearance with Nate Tice on the Football 301 podcast, Daniels spoke cautiously but suggestively about potential offseason additions.

He mentioned “people from Arizona State” he’d like to play with again, adding just enough detail to spark speculation without naming anyone directly.

Washington’s receiver outlook gives context to that interest. Veteran standout Terry McLaurin remains a cornerstone target, but depth questions linger.

Deebo Samuel could depart in free agency after only one season in Washington, potentially leaving the offense searching for another reliable playmaker.

Financially, Aiyuk may not command elite-tier money if released, potentially seeking $10 to $12 million.

That price could make the risk more appealing for a Commanders team seeking upside without overspending.

Meanwhile, San Francisco leadership has all but acknowledged the impending split.

General manager John Lynch recently described the situation as unfortunate and suggested the receiver has likely played his final snap for the franchise, though no formal transaction has been finalized.

For Daniels, the motivation appears simple: familiarity, trust, and offensive continuity.

Reuniting with a receiver he already knows could accelerate his development while giving Washington another explosive threat.

Whether the move materializes remains to be seen, but the possibility of the former college duo reconnecting in burgundy and gold is quickly becoming one of the offseason’s most intriguing subplots.
