Could the 49ers land Myles Garrett? Unlikely, but an analyst reveals a bold strategy to bolster their pass rush and Super Bowl hopes.

Could the San Francisco 49ers pull off a move to add edge rusher Myles Garrett? That's what some are discussing as we enter mid-April.

To be clear, it's a long shot. You don't simply work out a deal for a seven-time first or second team all pro with no resistance. The Cleveland Browns will want a strong return for the dominant edge rusher and may ask for more than the Niners think he is worth.

That said, San Francisco appears sufficiently motivated to make a trade of that nature given what it has already done this offseason. The Niners are in position to push for a first Super Bowl title since 1994. One analyst discussed how they could make a move that could take them over the top.

49ers insider Chase Senior shared how they could get the deal done.

“Under John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan when they took over the reins in 2017, they have consistently invested in the defensive line, in particular at edge-rusher.

So, with San Francisco clearly valuing the edge-rusher spot, they’re also a team that was dead last ins acks last year, doesn’t it make sense to at least poke around and show some interest in Myles Garrett and see what that trade offer would be and to see what the Browns want?

The 49ers this offseason have made a bunch of win-now moves. Myles Garrett on top of those moves would be another ultimate win-now move for San Francisco. Can you imagine what Myles Garrett and Osa Odighizuwa would be able to do on that Niners defensive line?”

To predict the move would happen this offseason with any certainty would be irresponsible. The Niners have yet to make a splash trade for a defensive end and might be down to their last option with Garrett. Past rumored trades have not panned out or fallen through for the team. That is not going to stop the speculation and interest in what it could mean.

If the Niners are able to pull off the move, it seems certain that San Francisco will be well on its way to contending for a Super Bowl if not the clear favorite to win it. Whether or not the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will return to 2025 form is a huge question mark. It is difficult to believe they will be as good next season, and we could even see regression from another NFC West rival in the Los Angeles Rams.

We'll monitor the trade potential for now, but even if it is an unlikely trade, it's worth keeping an eye on leading into the NFL draft.
