Former NFL safety T.J. Ward slams the star receiver’s recent behavior, warning that erratic antics and public outbursts are alienating potential suitors across the league’s inner circle.
The jig is up. San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will not be playing for the Washington Commanders in 2026. That is, if one former NFL defensive back has anything to say about it.
T.J. Ward has caught wind of Aiyuk's antics over the last couple of months like the rest of us. While Aiyuk might have been quiet in the early going he has become increasingly vocal about how he feels the Niners are approaching his return from injury.
Ward is not impressed with Aiyuk's comments. He suggests the San Francisco wide receiver should forget about playing for the Commanders in the upcoming season. Here's some of what Ward had to say on the "Speakeasy" podcast.
“You ain’t coming over here. And that’s just how it is. If I’m a GM, you could have come out the same way, and I’m not bringing you over here. That’s just what it is. Look at you, bro. You acting a fool.
You doing all this. You was driving past the stadium about to get wrecked reckless driving, you throwing money around, you talking bad about this ownership. These owners are a club. I don’t care if they got different 32 teams. That’s a club in itself. We 32 billionaire owners. We mob and we move as one. It’s a collection.”
When there is any legitimate reason to go to bat for an NFL player, fellow current and former players often speak up on their behalf. There are certainly some who have defended Aiyuk. Interestingly enough, a growing contingent of current and former NFL players are speaking out against what Aiyuk is saying and doing this offseason.
No one may really know what all has been said and done between Aiyuk and the 49ers organization. But based on what we know, the increasing consensus seems to be that Aiyuk should be already gearing up to play for the Niners in the 2026 season. It does not appear that is going to happen.
That Ward is so adamant that the Commanders should not pursue Aiyuk is fairly telling. If other NFL players feel that strongly about a player's absence, imagine how Washington Commanders executives and personnel staff feel about it.
There's still a lot of offseason left though it dwindles by the day. We will continue to monitor the Aiyuk situation in the event that he does decide to return for the 2026 season.
