The future Hall of Famer is already building chemistry with his new quarterback, bringing veteran leadership and a massive 6-foot-5 frame to Kyle Shanahan’s high-powered offensive arsenal.

The San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch and the front office gave head coach Kyle Shanahan quite a present this past March, handing the offensive mastermind one of the greatest wide receivers in the history of the NFL.

Future Hall of Famer Mike Evans came to the Bay Area on a three-year deal worth up to $42.4 million this past March and has wasted no time developing a connection with his new quarterback, Brock Purdy.

Evans, 32, spoke to the media after San Francisco's practice on Wednesday, highlighting the growing relationship between him and Purdy.

"Love Brock," Evans said via NBC Sports' Taylor Wirth. "He's a big reason why I came here ... Throws a really great ball. I'm getting the timing down with him now. Super smart. He's about his business, too. Comes to work every single day."

The 12-year veteran currently sits 10th all-time in touchdown receptions with 108. Assuming Evans stays healthy, he'll have a great shot at passing either Tony Gonzales (111) or Antonio Gates (116) in his first season with the Niners.

"I just want to continue to do what I've been doing my whole career, and that's making plays, being the ultimate team player, and the ultimate playmaker," Evans continued. "That's what I really want. And just let these guys know not to take this s--t for granted because you never know what could happen."

Evans is no stranger to adversity. The 6-foot-5 receiver enters the 2026 campaign having missed 10 games last season after nursing a hamstring strain, suffering a broken collarbone and sustaining a concussion.

The tallest receiver Purdy has played with since being drafted by the Niners in 2022 is Juwan Jennings, who stands at 6-foot-3. Jennings signed with the Minnesota Vikings last month but proved to be one of Purdy's most productive targets while donning the scarlet red and metallic gold.

Shanahan always managed to incorporate Jennings into the weekly game plan quite creatively, and his large frame for a receiver provided the offense with a dynamic option that complements the speed and shiftiness of San Francisco's other weapons.

Forced to face stacked defenses when taking on their NFC West rivals, the Niners' addition of Evans should be a massive counter to the big-time additions the rest of the division made this offseason — and knowing that the veteran wide receiver is already bonding with his quarterback should fill the franchise's fan base with optimism.
