The 49ers are 5-0, but their receiver room is badly depleted by injuries. Here are three wideouts San Francisco should pursue before the trade deadline.

The San Francisco 49ers have reached 5-0 on toughness, scheme, and a willingness to win ugly, but nobody in Santa Clara believes the current receiver room is built to survive a January run.

Ricky Pearsall is done for the year after landing on season-ending injured reserve with a lingering knee problem; Christian Kirk, De’Zhaun Stribling, and Demarcus Robinson are all on IR, and Deebo Samuel is now expected to miss at least a couple of weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered in Seattle.

Mike Evans has been everything the front office hoped for, including a 113-yard afternoon in the Week 5 comeback win over the Seahawks, and Brandin Cooks has helped stabilize things.

Still, a contender cannot ask a 33-year-old receiver to carry the entire passing game into the winter. With the deadline set for 4 p.m. ET on November 10, here are three receivers John Lynch should be calling about.

Jauan Jennings, Minnesota Vikings

The most natural fit is a familiar one, as Jennings has become something of a forgotten man in Minnesota, catching just two passes for nine yards through five games despite logging heavy snap counts behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

That lack of usage has made him one of the more obvious trade candidates in the league, and insiders have already floated San Francisco as a logical landing spot.

Jennings knows Kyle Shanahan’s playbook without needing a single walkthrough; he remains one of the best blocking receivers in football, and he produced 55 catches, 643 yards, and nine touchdowns for this very offense a season ago.

The relationship ended awkwardly in the spring, but a one-year rental for a late-round pick is the kind of reunion that makes sense for both sides.

Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars

If the 49ers want to swing bigger, Thomas is the name with real upside. The 24-year-old exploded for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie, but he has drifted out of the Jaguars’ plans and has managed only nine catches for 105 yards this season.

Jacksonville has reportedly shown no interest in moving him, yet the haul Arizona received for Marvin Harrison Jr. could soften that stance, and a projected cost around a second-round pick is steep but defensible for a player who could be part of the long-term core.

Thomas would give Brock Purdy a legitimate vertical threat for years to come rather than just for this stretch run.

Jerry Jeudy, Cleveland Browns

The budget option might also be the most practical, since Jeudy’s availability is reportedly well known around the league and the Browns are hoping for a third- or fourth-round return.

He has slipped behind rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in Cleveland’s pecking order, but he is only two years removed from a 1,229-yard Pro Bowl season, and his $1.5 million base salary fits comfortably into any contender’s books.

Jeudy’s route-running would pair naturally with Evans’ size on the outside and give Shanahan the separator he has been missing.

The 49ers have proven they can win with what they have, but adding one of these three would turn a gritty unbeaten start into a roster genuinely built to finish the job.
