Who should the 49ers draft in the 2026 NFL Draft?

The San Francisco 49ers went into the offseason desperately needing help at wide receiver. They signed veteran Mike Evans, but still need more reinforcements. Because of this, selecting a pass catcher isn’t out of the question at pick 27. Three options stand out as perfect fits in the Shanahan scheme. Fans should get to know these prospects and how they would impact the offense.

Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, and Mike Evans aren't a bad receiving group. However, it still needs improvement and is missing a dynamic yards after catch threat. This role was Deebo Samuel’s, but has been vacant ever since he was traded last offseason.

A common theme about these three receivers is their prowess with the ball. They are exceptional after the catch and are challenging to bring down. They would seamlessly fit into that role and be a day-one contributor for the 49ers.

With that said, it’s time to dive into each of the three potential options at pick 27.

Omar Cooper Jr.

Omar Cooper flew onto the national scene with an impressive 2025 campaign at Indiana. He mixes elite athleticism with spectacular route running to create instant separation. He forces defenses to respect him deep with his blazing vertical speed and then either throttles down or makes a precise cut. The former Hoosier has incredible hands and consistently makes off-body catches.

Cooper was tied for fourth in the nation with 27 missed tackles forced. He’s incredibly elusive and is difficult to tackle in open space. Shanahan would have a field day scheming up plays for Cooper in the slot.

Chris Bell

Chris Bell would be a top-20 pick if he hadn’t torn his ACL in Louisville’s final game. He would be an ideal Deebo Samuel replacement as the two have a similar build and playstyle. Bell’s a wide receiver in a running backs body, standing at six-foot-two, 220 pounds and shows it while running. He’s a freight train in open space, consistently breaking arm tackles. He has a second gear that makes it nearly impossible for defenders to catch him (watch the Miami game for evidence).

Additionally, Bell isn’t a one-trick pony. He’s a formidable route runner and creates space with his physicality. He needs to improve his cuts, as they can be rounded at times, but he’s capable of an expansive route tree.

KC Concepcion

KC Concepcion was viewed as a gadget player heading into the year, but proved people wrong at Texas A&M. While he’s still impactful in that role, he has significantly developed his route running. He thrives in the middle of the field, where he has green grass ahead of him, and is a constant game-changing threat.

An underrated part of Concepcion’s game is his special teams impact. He’s an outstanding kick and punt returner, which will further boost his stock. He’s a well-rounded prospect and would be a fantastic pick for the 49ers.
