Beyond Purdy and McCaffrey, unexpected tight ends and interior linemen shone. Discover who powered the 49ers' offensive success.

The San Francisco 49ers’ offense once again executed in their win over the Chicago Bears, and Pro Football Focus grades help tell the story of how the unit performed snap by snap. While the box score highlights Brock Purdy’s five-touchdown night and Christian McCaffrey’s dominant rushing performance, the underlying grades reveal strong contributions from unexpected places, particularly at tight end and along the interior offensive line.

    Top Offensive Performers

Tight end Luke Farrell led all 49ers offensive players with a 91.8 PFF grade across 27 snaps. Farrell didn’t light up the stat sheet, but his impact as a blocker was massive. He earned the best run blocking grade on the team (89.2), helping spring McCaffrey for several chunk gains as San Francisco leaned heavily on the ground game.

Jake Tonges continued his emergence, earning an 86.7 offensive grade over 50 snaps. Tonges posted the second highest receiving grade on the team (79.9), catching seven passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, providing much-needed stability with George Kittle sidelined.

Quarterback Brock Purdy earned an 81.9 offensive grade, his fourth straight game at 74.5 or higher. Purdy finished 24-of-33 for 303 yards, three passing touchdowns, one interception, and two rushing scores, marking his second consecutive game with five total touchdowns. While not his cleanest outing, Purdy consistently delivered in high-leverage moments and punished Chicago with his legs near the goal line.

Left guard Spencer Burford was the 49ers’ highest-graded offensive lineman at 81.5, also earning the team’s top run-blocking grade among linemen. Center Jake Brendel excelled in pass protection, posting the best pass-blocking grade in the game and allowing zero pressures on 41 pass-blocking snaps.

As expected, Christian McCaffrey performed yet again. He earned an 81.1 offensive grade and the highest rushing grade of the game (81.2), finishing with a season-high 140 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per attempt.

    Areas That Need Cleaning Up

Despite catching a crucial fourth-quarter touchdown, Jauan Jennings earned the lowest offensive grade among regular contributors at 57.7, posting a team-low 57.2 receiving grade. Kyle Juszczyk also struggled, earning a 58.0 grade and the lowest run-blocking grade in the game (39.5).

Injury issues impacted the offensive line early, as Trent Williams played just one snap before exiting. His replacement, Austen Pleasants, allowed the only sack on Purdy and was responsible for two of the four pressures surrendered by the offensive line.

    Overall Outlook

In total, the 49ers’ offensive line allowed just four pressures, a solid performance considering the early loss of Williams. With Purdy playing confident football, McCaffrey in peak form, and role players like Farrell and Tonges stepping up, San Francisco’s offense continues to prove it can adapt and overcome regardless of circumstances.
