The Chicago Bears made some last-minute roster moves ahead of the Monday Night Football showdown against the Washington Commanders.
The Bears are 2-2 heading into Monday night's game. It offers a chance for some revenge after losing 18-15 to the Commanders on a wild Hail Mary that ended with a tipped pass caught by receiver Noah Brown last season.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Bears were promoting kicker Jake Moody and defensive lineman Jonathan Ford from the practice squad. This is an interesting move for the team, with Cairo Santos being listed as questionable on the Bears' injury report with a quad injury.
If Santos weren't able to play in the game, it would be a rare occurrence for him. He has not missed a game with the franchise since he was signed by them in 2020. He has had two stints with the Bears, with his first taking place in 2017 after being waived by the Kansas City Chiefs.
He spent one year with the Bears before joining the New York Jets in March of 2018. His time with the Jets did not last long, as he was released in August of that year and signed by the Los Angeles Rams in October of 2018.
Santos also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that season before the franchise released him during the 2019 offseason.
The Tennessee Titans were the last team Santos played on before his current stint in Chicago. He played in five games for Tennessee and was cut after missing four field goals in a 14-7 Titans loss to the Buffalo Bills.
This season, Santos has been a reliable kicking option, only missing one field goal as he is 6-for-7 on the year. He has made all 11 of his extra point attempts thus far as well.
Moody is on his second NFL team since his college days with the Michigan Wolverines. He spent 2023-25 with the San Francisco 49ers before being cut by the franchise earlier this season.
In the three years he spent in San Francisco, he made 46 of his 64 field goal attempts, and 94 of 96 extra point attempts.
Ford has been with the Bears since 2024. He has played in five games for the team and accounted for 9 total tackles and one tackle for loss.
The Bears and Commanders are part of the Monday Night Football doubleheader that will take place. The Bears-Commanders game kicks off at 7:15 p.m. CT on ABC.
