Chicago Bears fans received some awful news ahead of the matchup with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The game has plenty at stake for both teams, with the Bears holding the division lead at 9-3, while the Packers are close behind at 8-3-1.
Chicago is also the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff race following a 31-28 loss by the Los Angeles Rams at the hands of the Carolina Panthers in Week 13.
After missing significant time due to a calf injury, another issue plagued Kyler Gordon again at Lambeau Field. He suffered a groin injury in pregame warmups and was officially ruled out of the game just before kickoff, via The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.
It has been a rough year for Gordon already, who missed the first four games of the season due to a hamstring injury. He then returned for just two games before going on the injured reserve with a calf injury ahead of the Baltimore Ravens game in Week 8.
Gordon returned from IR against the Philadelphia Eagles along with fellow cornerback Jaylon Johnson, but is out with an injury yet again.
This means that fans will see a heavier dosage of C.J. Gardner-Johnson at nickel corner, most likely. Gardner-Johnson was signed by Chicago to fill that role specifically when Gordon went down with his previous injuries.
The veteran defensive back had 23 total tackles, three sacks, four TFLs and one forced fumble heading into Sunday's game.
While losing Gordon after he had just returned from injury hurts, this team has proven time and time again that it has the depth to overcome this kind of obstacle. Gordon has played in only three games, with seven total tackles and one TFL, due to injury issues in 2025.
Gordon is in the first season of his three-year, $40 million extension with the Bears, via Spotrac. He got off to a hot start as a rookie, recording three interceptions, 71 total tackles and two TFLs. He had two interceptions and 61 total tackles the following season.
Last year, Gordon finished with 75 total tackles and four TFLs.
His impact on the field will be missed, especially because of how he impacts the Bears as a whole. When Gordon is on the field, the Bears have the fourth-best NFL success rate. However, when he isn't, Chicago ranks 28th.
A really tough break for the veteran defensive back.
