Bears Officially Announce Press Taylor as Franchise's Next OC cover image

Press Taylor takes the reins! Discover how his offensive system aims to unlock Caleb Williams and elevate Chicago's explosive attack.

The Chicago Bears are going from Declan Doyle to Press Taylor as offensive coordinator.

The team made things official with several assistant coaches on Wednesday. There were some massive holes to fill this offseason.

Two of the biggest departures were Doyle and running backs coach Eric Bieniemy. Bieniemy is back with the Kansas City Chiefs for a second stint as their OC. Doyle left for the Baltimore Ravens' OC opening as he joins Jesse Minter's staff.

To fill the hole at running backs coach, the Bears brought in former Miami Dolphins assistant Eric Studesville. Studesville and Johnson were assistants together in Miami.

Another familiar face is joining the staff, as Johnson also brought in former New England Patriots assistant Will Lawing. Lawing and Johnson played college football together at North Carolina. Lawing will be an offensive analyst for the Bears.

Then, there was the hiring of former Bears' receiver Isaiah Ford. Ford was with the organization in 2023 and will be an offensive quality control coach.

Now, fans will welcome in the Taylor era at OC in the Windy City.

Taylor joined the franchise in 2025 as the passing game coordinator. With his help, Caleb Williams took some major steps in his progression.

Williams broke the single-season passing yards (3,838) record set by former Bears quarterback Erik Kramer in 1995. Williams ended the 2025 regular season with 3,942 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Williams was also one of the least-sacked quarterbacks in the league this past season. The Bears went from allowing the most sacks (68) in the NFL to the third-fewest (24) in 2025.

This won't be Taylor's first stint as an OC in the NFL. He was previously the OC for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2022-24, working with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. In 2022, the Jaguars ranked 10th in total offensive yards and points per game under Taylor.

Taylor will have some big shoes to fill now that he's the OC of the Bears.

Last season, the Bears were 12th in passing yards (234.8), third in rushing yards (144.5) and ninth in points per game (25.9).

At the same time, Taylor definitely has some very good players at his disposal to help him succeed. Williams continues to improve, and the Bears' rushing attack was one of the best in the league with D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai.

Then, there was the emergence of rookie tight end Colston Loveland, who led the team in receiving yards. The receiving room is solid as well, with Rome Odunze, D.J. Moore and Luther Burden.

Going from Doyle to Taylor may be an adjustment, but the assistant has everything he needs to do well.
