With multiple departures, Chicago eyes an internal candidate to spark their offense after a playoff run.

The Chicago Bears had a magical season in 2025.

The Bears went 11-6 in the regular season and took home the No. 2 seed in the NFC. Chicago also won its first NFC North title since 2018, and reached the postseason for the first time since 2020.

Soldier Field even hosted a Wild Card and Divisional Round game.

After pulling off another miraculous comeback against the Green Bay Packers, the Bears lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round to end their season.

The effects of having such a quick turnaround within the organization have been felt this offseason. Bears Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham left to become the next GM of the Atlanta Falcons.

Assistants Eric Bieniemy and Declan Doyle have both departed for different jobs.

Bieniemy joined the Kansas City Chiefs as their next offensive coordinator. Doyle left for the Baltimore Ravens' OC job on the staff of head coach Jesse Minter, who was recently hired from the Los Angeles Chargers.

Luckily, Chicago has been able to retain its entire defensive staff so far, including defensive backs coach Al Harris. Harris was linked to defensive coordinator openings with the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, but is sticking with the Bears.

The Bears have submitted multiple interview requests for assistants they are considering for their OC role. Chicago has sent those requests to Arizona Cardinals passing game specialist Connor Senger and Cincinnati Bengals WR coach Troy Walters.

Walters turned down the request, as he wants to stay in Cincinnati.

However, the Bears are also considering another move from within the organization. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Bears are considering passing game coordinator Press Taylor to fill Doyle's role.

Taylor joined the organization in 2025 after serving as the OC of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2022-24, so he has experience in the role.

He helped the Bears go from finishing inside the bottom 10 in terms of passing yards per game to 12th (234.8) in the NFL in 2025.

Taylor spent 2013-2020 with the Philadelphia Eagles in various assistant roles. He spent one season with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Jaguars as OC in 2022.

If the Bears do decide to make an inside hire to fill their OC vacancy, this wouldn't be a bad one. We'll see what the franchise decides to do as they begin interviewing candidates.
