Another benching signals the Bears' correct decision. Justin Fields' struggles resurface, highlighting the success of Chicago's new quarterback and winning trajectory.

The Justin Fields experiment with the Chicago Bears came to an end in March of last year when he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Bears sent him to Pittsburgh and received a fourth and sixth-round pick in exchange. He spent one season with the Steelers and accounted for 1,106 passing yards, five touchdowns and one interception.

He became a free agent at the end of the 2024 season and joined the New York Jets on a two-year deal.

Things haven't turned out like he had hoped with the Jets and head coach Aaron Glenn announced that Fields was going to be benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor, via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) on X Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) on X The #Jets are making a QB change, going with Tyrod Taylor as Justin Fields goes to the bench. Coach Aaron Glenn insinuated last week this could be coming. Now, he’s informed both parties.

Fields' stats with the Jets don't look bad to the naked eye, as he has 1,259 passing yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. However, he consistently finished with under 100 passing yards this season, achieving this feat in four games for the Jets in 2025.

In the Jets' last game before he was benched, Fields finished with 116 passing yards and one touchdown, completing 15 of his 26 passing attempts in a 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots.

Bears' fans know this feeling too well with Fields and it looks like moving on from him was the right decision.

The franchise decided to move on from Fields and instead build around Caleb Williams, whom it selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Fields accounted for 6,674 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the three years he spent with the Bears. In his two years with Chicago so far, Williams has 5,870 passing yards, 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His completion percentage during that stretch was 60.3%.

At the end of the day, Fields wasn't playing winning football in Chicago and finished with a record of 10-28 as the starter under center.

Williams already has more wins than Fields did in the entirety of his stint with Chicago, as he is 12-15 in two seasons.

Fast forward to 2025, and the Bears are 7-3 are currently hold the top spot in the NFC North under the guidance of first-year head coach Ben Johnson. Chicago took down the Minnesota Vikings 19-17 thanks to a 48-yard game-winning field goal from kicker Cairo Santos.

It seems that the Bears ultimately made the right choice in moving on from Fields, and it's been proven time and time again since that fateful day in March of 2024.
