Chicago Bears Can End Unfortunate Streak vs. Buccaneers
Nov 6, 2026 12:00 PM

Riding a wave of prime-time dominance, Chicago aims to snap a six-year, 12-game Sunday night skid against a surging Buccaneers defense and a healthy Baker Mayfield.

The Chicago Bears have been crushing it in prime time games this season.

Their first prime-time game was against the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. The Bears outlasted the Patriots 30-24 at home after a 58-yard field goal from Cairo Santos put the game out of reach.

Then, they faced the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. The Bears weren't fazed by the home crowd at Lumen Field.

Chicago handed Seattle a 34-17 loss to improve it 6-2 on the season.

The Bears have another prime-time game coming up in Week 9, but there's history tied to it. Even Ben Johnson himself hasn't been able to escape it.

The Bears have not won a game on Sunday Night Football since 2018. They have been 0-12 on SNF ever since.

The last win the franchise had there was against the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 15-6. The Bears have a chance to end this losing streak against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It won't be easy. The Buccaneers are surging thanks to the return of Baker Mayfield from injury. He missed the last three games with a dislocated thumb.

The Buccaneers are 2-0 since he came back.

Tampa Bay dismantled the Carolina Panthers in his return. The defense was dominant in that game. The defense actually scored nine points of their own, with a scoop-and-score from Calijah Kancey and a blocked extra-point return by Zyon McCollum for two points.

The conditions in their last game didn't really allow Mayfield to throw the ball very well. It was raining the entire time, so the Buccaneers decided to run the ball. They beat the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 without completing a single pass.

Mayfield hasn't wowed anyone in his return so far, but the games haven't really dictated that he do so yet. The Bears should not take him lightly.

This will be the first time that the Bears and Buccaneers have met since the 2023 season. In that game, Mayfield and the Buccaneers got the better of the Bears. Tampa Bay beat Chicago 27-17.

Justin Fields had an interception and lost two fumbles in that game. Times have changed for the Bears.

They now have Caleb Williams, who has turned the ball over just once this season. Williams has 1,267 passing yards, six touchdowns and one interception this season.

We'll see if the Bears can continue their streak of 30-point games while hopefully ending their losing streak on Sunday Night Football.

Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
