Linebacker woes mount as key starters miss practice, compounding secondary injuries. Will crucial players heal for Sunday's matchup?

The Chicago Bears' secondary has been very injured so far this season, and things got worse for another position group on Wednesday.

The injury report showed that all three starting linebackers for the Bears didn't practice. T.J. Edwards (hand/hamstring), Tremaine Edmunds (groin) and Noah Sewell (elbow) were all not practicing on Wednesday.

Edwards has been the primary recipient of the injury bug recently, playing only five games. When healthy, he has been a reliable tackler, finishing with over 100 tackles since he joined the Bears in 2023.

Edwards currently has 31 total tackles and one TFL.

Edmunds has been the most consistent of the three linebackers when it comes to his availability this season. He hasn't missed a game and has 89 total tackles, four interceptions, one sack and three TFLs.

Sewell is in his third season in the NFL and is having a breakout year, so losing him would also be unfortunate. He has 55 total tackles and three TFLs.

On top of the linebackers who were absent from Wednesday's practice, more injuries piled up in the secondary.

Defensive backs Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker (shoulder) didn't practice either. However, Byard was not at practice because of his NIR rest day.

The team is still waiting to see if Jaylon Johnson will make his first appearance since Week 2. He hasn't played since the 52-21 loss to the Detroit Lions because of a groin injury.

Kyler Gordon (calf) and Tyrique Stevenson (hip/calf) were also limited. Gordon recently came off the IR after suffering a groin injury in Week 7.

Offensive lineman Drew Dalman (knee), running back Travis Homer (hamstring/knee), running back D'Andre Swift (hip) and offensive lineman Darnell Wright (pectoral) were limited as well.

Luckily for the Bears, a lot can change, and this injury report is by no means set in stone. There is still plenty of time for Chicago's top players to get healthy before Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While he doesn't play for the Green Bay Packers anymore, the Bears will still want as much help as they can get if they face Aaron Rodgers, who is now with the Steelers.

Rodgers suffered a wrist injury in the 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and his status for the game is uncertain. He didn't practice on Wednesday, but the injury reports on Thursday and Friday will be more telling for his availability.

If he is unable to play, the Bears will face backup quarterback Mason Rudolph.

We'll see how much changes in the injury reports on Thursday and Friday.
