Key defensive leaders and offensive line depth are among the Bears facing uncertain futures. Who will Chicago fight to keep?

Free agency is coming, and the Chicago Bears won't be exempt from losing some of their players this offseason.

Year one of the Ben Johnson era ended in the Divisional Round after a heartbreaking 20-17 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams got the ball twice in overtime and wasted no time with their second opportunity, as kicker Harrison Mevis hit a 42-yard game-winning field goal.

Now that the Bears are eliminated from the playoffs, the focus is on the offseason and who the team can retain from this past season's group.

There are many Bears players on one-year deals set to expire, and even some whose rookie contracts are about to expire.

The likes of Kevin Byard, Nahshon Wright and Olamide Zaccheaus are just some of the players who could exit via free agency.

Here are the players that the Bears could lose to free agency if not re-signed:

WR Olamide Zaccheaus

Zacchaeus' one-year deal expires in the offseason. He showed his worth as a valuable depth piece at receiver. He had a crucial touchdown in the 31-27 win over the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card.

A case can definitely be made to keep him around in 2026 and the near future.

OT Braxton Jones

Jones started the year as the Bears' starting left tackle. Although he lost the job to Benedet before Ozzy Trapilo tookover, having an experienced offensive lineman is very valuable.

His recent injuries do make it hard for the Bears to consider keeping him. The team could be faced with re-signing Jones or Benedet, with Trapilo having a breakout year.

OT Theo Benedet

Benedet's one-year deal with the franchise is set to expire.

The Canadian had his ups and downs this season, but stepped up when he needed to in the wake of Trapilo's injury.

The decision to use Joe Thuney instead of Benedet on Sunday may point to how the organization feels about him, but like with Jones, depth along the offensive line goes a long way.

S Kevin Byard

Re-signing Byard should be of the utmost importance.

Byard led the NFL in interceptions (7) in the regular season. Having his veteran presence in the secondary was a real game-changer. He not only showed his leadership capabilities on the field, but having a guy like this in the locker room is invaluable.

His two-year, $15 million contract with the Bears is up, per Spotrac, but re-signing him feels like a no-brainer.

S Jaquan Brisker

It can be easy to be overshadowed by the kind of season that Byard had, but Brisker made sure to stand out with his willingness to help stop the run as well as defend passes.

Brisker made sure to get involved on defense, finishing with 93 total tackles, one interception, one sack and one TFL. His rookie deal is up, but I feel like he definitely earned a second contract with the Bears.

S Jonathan Owens

Owens was used as a reserve defensive back this season.

He played in 17 games without starting, recording 19 total tackles. His two-year, $4.75 million contract is up.

CB C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Gardner-Johnson also has a case for another contract with the Bears. When Gordon went down with various injuries throughout the season, he handled nickel corner duties. He recorded 51 total tackles, two interceptions, three sacks and five TFLs.

CB Nahshon Wright

Another player to consider is Wright. He was a liability at cornerback at times, but there were also times when he held down the secondary after some key injuries to Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon earlier in the year.

Wright finished the regular season with 80 total tackles, five interceptions and three TFLs.

DL Andrew Billings

Andrew Billings may be 30 years old, but don't let that discourage you from his ability to be a contributor on the defensive line. Billings played in 17 games with 14 starts and recorded 31 total tackles, six TFLs and one sack.
