An insider definitively debunks a popular defensive tackle trade rumor, revealing the Bears' true plans for their promising young lineman.

The Chicago Bears have some work to do when it comes to their cap space for the offseason.

The team has already released Amen Ogbongbemiga after two seasons in Chicago. At the end of the day, he wasn't able to stay healthy. After playing in 17 games in 2024, Ogbongbemiga played in just eight for the Bears in 2025.

That move freed up a little over $2 million in cap space.

Tremaine Edmunds was granted permission to seek a trade last week. Getting his contract off the book by whatever means necessary will give the Bears $15 million in cap space.

Trading D.J. Moore or D'Andre Swift would free up plenty of space as well. A trade involving Moore gives the team $16.5 million, and a trade involving Swift frees up $7.5 million. (Via Over The Cap)

The most recent rumor involved a member of the defensive line. However, The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs shut that down quickly.

There was a rumor that the Bears were shopping defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, but Biggs put that to rest on a recent appearance with 104.3 The Score. Biggs shared that the Bears aren't receiving or making calls on Dexter.

He believed that Dexter would be on the team next season since the Bears already have defensive tackles Grady Jarrett and Shemar Turner under contract.

"Gervon Dexter, they're not taking calls on him," Biggs said. "They're not making calls on him. I'm reporting nothing's happening on that. I don't want to speculate on other people's work. They've got two defensive tackles under contract. They're not looking to move one. Gervon Dexter will be with the Bears next season."

Dexter was taken in the second round out of Florida in the 2023 NFL Draft. He's shown improvement each year that he's been with the Bears.

As a rookie, he accounted for 20 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. In 2024, he made strides after recording 51 total tackles, five sacks and four TFLs. He set a new career high in sacks last season with six, and also had 44 total tackles, six TFLs and two fumble recoveries.

It's a good thing that the Bears aren't moving Dexter after all. The defensive tackle is still on his rookie deal, and it would be a shame to see his Bears tenure end before he gets a chance at another contract.

The Bears will need all the help they can get in the trenches after allowing the sixth-most rushing yards (134.5) per game in 2025.
