As rookies report, Chicago hones its secondary depth with a safety-heavy tryout while scouting international prospects, including a 6-foot-9 rugby standout, to bolster the preseason roster.
The Chicago Bears are on the cusp of training camp, but that doesn't mean they can't still scope for more talent before then.
The rookies and quarterbacks reported to the facility on Friday, with the veterans doing the same on Tuesday.
The 2026 draft class for the Bears has exciting names. Dillon Thieneman, Logan Jones, Sam Roush, Zavion Thomas, Malik Muhammad, Keyshaun Elliott and Jordan Van Den Berg will all be on the practice field soon for the first time since minicamp.
Fans will also get to see new additions like Garrett Bradbury, Devin Bush and Coby Bryant.
There were also workouts being held quite recently, according to KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson.
The theme of these workouts? That would be safety.
The Bears worked out four different safeties. Hudson Clark, Glendon Miller, Josh Minkins and Marlen Sewell were among the safeties who attempted to make the team.
Those four players were all undrafted free agents from April. Clark comes from Arkansas, Miller is from Maryland, Minkins played college football at Louisville and then transferred to Cincinnati, and Sewell played for Vanderbilt.
Clark had five years of college football at Arkansas. He played in 55 games, with 224 total tackles, 0.5 sacks and six interceptions.
Miller also made the most of his college eligibility, attending Maryland for five years. He accounted for 100 total tackles, seven interceptions and five TFLs in college.
Minkins spent four years and Louisville and played for Cincinnati in his final year of college football. He tallied 144 total tackles, four interceptions, 3.5 TFLs and four sacks in his career.
Sewell was another five-year college athlete who stayed at the same school. At Vanderbilt, he recorded 102 total tackles, 2.5 TFLs and 0.5 sacks.
Then, there were players from outside the U.S.A.
Faumui hails from the NFL's International Player Pathway program. He is Samoan, came to the NFL through Australia, and is an offensive lineman. Faumui is 6-foot-3 and weighs 325 pounds.
The Bears even had a rugby player try out in Ben Te Kura. He played rugby for the Brisbane Broncos. He has the makings of an offensive lineman, coming in at 6-foot-9,
It's unknown whether any of these players have made the team yet.
The Bears are still trying to put together their 90-man roster for training camp and then will have to sift through all those players to get to a 53-man roster by the time the regular season rolls around.
