Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is quite familiar with the game of Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.
He coached against him twice as a rookie, and faced him again in Week 1, with Minnesota winning 27-24.
Williams showed O'Connell just how dangerous he can be, finishing with 210 passing yards, 58 rushing yards and two total touchdowns.
At a recent press conference, the Vikings' head coach shared what it's like competing against a versatile player like Williams. O'Connell credited Williams for his arm talent and ability to avoid being sacked.
"We know the formula, you know, pretty well as far as having a defense leading the league in turnovers, and it equating to extra possessions, chances to win games," O'Connell said. "In some cases, allowing Caleb to play really well and efficiently throughout the game, but he's also shown that he can go get it at the end with his unique arm talent, and he's one of the more difficult quarterbacks in the league to get on the ground, even when you get to him. We've seen that firsthand."
The multitude of throws that the quarterback can make stood out to O'Connell in their first meeting this season. It doesn't matter if Williams is throwing from the pocket and on the run, he can make many different kinds of plays through the air.
"What I would say is, and we felt in the game in Week 1, you know, just some of the throws," O'Connell said. "He can make the highest-level throw. Whether it's play pass, on the move, keeper game, different variations of attacking downfield, and then when he does break contain, he can make every throw at that point, too. He's made some throws that haven't necessarily ended up in completions that you end up watching them a few times on tape just because of the high, high level of difficulty throw he can make in and out of the pocket, and that's something we've always known about him."
Williams has 2,136 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions on the season.
While much has changed about the Bears' offense since their last game against the Vikings, one thing has remained the same. Williams has yet to beat Minnesota in his career and is 0-3 against the Vikings coming into Sunday's game.
On top of that, the Bears still don't have a division win this season, so something has got to give.
We'll see if both Williams and the Bears can get their first win against Minnesota this year. Kickoff is at noon CT on Fox.
