Robert Griffin III forecasts an MVP-caliber ascent for the Chicago star, envisioning a dominant season that cements the former Heisman winner among the NFL’s elite quarterback trio.
Chicago Bears fans are truly blessed to have Caleb Williams as their starting quarterback.
We saw just how good he can be with solid coaching in 2025. Williams ascended and finished with 3,942 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
In just his second year in the NFL, he broke the Bears record for single-season passing yards, won an NFC North title, and led his team to a playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.
There have been discussions this offseason about Williams taking that next step and putting himself in the MVP conversation. "First Things First's" Danny Parkins has been campaigning for Williams and believes he'll be firmly in the MVP race this season.
As fans know, Williams won the Heisman at USC in 2022. Another Heisman winner suited up for Williams recently on a recent appearance on "The Herd With Colin Cowherd."
That someone was none other than 2011 Heisman winner Robert Griffin III, who took home the honor for Baylor.
Griffin said it wouldn't be crazy to suggest Williams could be seen as the third-best quarterback in the league in 2026.
"The good is so good and dynamic, and, like, the throws you see him making on the screen right now," Griffin said. "He can throw the deep ball. He can throw it on the run. He can be rolling to his left, throw it off his back, and drop it between five defenders. Those are plays that not every quarterback can make, and because he cleaned up his sack issues, I think him and Ben Johnson are like the perfect yin and yang. The perfect right amount of craziness, and I don't think it's outrageous to say that he'll be the 3rd best QB in the league this year."
If Williams is able to take that next big step, it would be awesome to see.
To be considered one of the top five quarterbacks in the league, he would have to elevate his game to that of the Josh Allens of the world.
Is it possible for Williams to achieve this? We saw how much he improved in just one season with Johnson. What's keeping him from getting even better in two years with the head coach?
However, it won't be easy.
The Bears traded away D.J. Moore and have lost Olamide Zaccheaus to free agency. Most of the offense is still the same compared to last year.
Rome Odunze and Luther Burden now look to more extensive roles in the offense, and the Bears have D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai returning after making up the league's third-best rushing offense.
Williams will also be playing with one of the best offensive lines in the league once again.
To truly become part of the upper echelon of quarterbacks in the league, it won't be easy. We've learned that it's not wise to bet against Williams, though.
