While Kevin Byard is no longer a member of the Chicago Bears, he still wishes the best for his former teammates.
Byard spent two seasons with the Bears and recently made his third-ever Pro Bowl in 2025. Even after it was reported that conversations about a new deal were going well, the Bears decided it was time to move on from safety.
In his final season in the Windy City, Byard led the NFL with seven interceptions and also had 93 total tackles and four TFLs.
Byard chose to reunite with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, at the New England Patriots on a one-year deal. Vrabel coached the safety at the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2022.
The Titans traded the Pro Bowl safety to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023, severing the ties between him and his head coach until now.
To replace him, the Bears made a move to bring in former Seattle Seahawks safety Coby Bryant.
Byard only saw Caleb Williams play in person for two seasons, but he knows the Bears quarterback is special. Byard spoke with NFL Analyst Jordan Schultz about what he saw in Williams and even predicted that some Super Bowls were in his future.
"I think him being able to grow into Ben Johnson's offense, it was great to see," Byard said. "And I can only just imagine what it's gonna feel like and look like in year two in Ben Johnson's system. When he moves on the run, he's more accurate; it's just the craziest thing in the world. I expect him to be one of the top quarterbacks, if not top 2 or 3, quarterbacks in the league. And I think he got some Super Bowls, you know, in his sights as well."
Chicago reached the postseason in year one of the Ben Johnson era, losing in the Divisional Round to the Los Angeles Rams.
The last time the Bears went to the Super Bowl was in 2006, when they lost to the Indianapolis Colts.
If Williams and the Bears can get to the big game in 2026, it would be quite the feat. Williams took a lot of major steps in his progression last season, breaking the single-season passing yards record and setting a new career high in touchdown passes (27).
It won't be easy to get back to the postseason in 2026 for the Bears, but it's clear that the sky is the limit for a player like Williams.
