Despite strong offensive stats, a startling drop stat reveals a hidden vulnerability threatening Bears' future wins.

The Chicago Bears did a lot of things right on offense under former offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.

The Bears were 12th in passing yards (234.8), third in rushing yards (144.5) and ninth in points per game (25.9). Caleb Williams was also one of the fewest-sacked quarterbacks in the league.

Chicago's offensive line allowed the third-fewest sacks in the NFL last season, with 24.

After the job he did with the offense in 2025, Doyle was a highly sought-after candidate for job openings in the offseason. He eventually landed with the Baltimore Ravens, on the staff of first-year head coach Jesse Minter. Doyle will have the ability to call play, a luxury he didn't have with the Bears.

Even after all the things the Bears did right on offense, there is still room to grow. One stat from last season made that very clear.

Williams lost the third-highest number of passing yards due to drops last season since 2021. He was tied with Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence with 404 from the former Clemson star's 2021 season.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (409, 2024) has the second-most, with Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (436, 2021) holding the record.

One game that comes to mind when you think about dropped passes for the Bears was in Week 10 versus the New York Giants. Chicago won that game 24-20, but had roughly eight drops throughout.

Multiple of those drops were in the end zone, and could've put the Bears in a better position to win that game earlier. D.J. Moore and Olamide Zaccheaus both had some brutal drops in the end zone in the first quarter.

Moore and Zaccheaus have since departed from the team this offseason. Moore was traded to the Bills for a second-round pick, and Zaccheaus left the team in free agency and has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

There are more problems with the Bears than just drops.

Left tackle is going to be an enigma once again after the injury to Ozzy Trapilo in the playoffs. Braxton Jones and Theo Benedet were re-signed to bolster the position, but both have had deficiencies in the past.

However, if these drops aren't fixed by the 2026 season, they will start to pile up and could potentially cost the Bears wins.

There's been some shuffling of the receivers in the Windy City with Moore no longer on the team. Luther Burden will be expected to carry a bigger workload and could fit into the YAC receiver role with the Bears.

Williams still has his issues, too, as we saw how inconsistent he was with turnovers during the playoffs. However, the receivers have got to do a better job of catching the ball when he's doing what he knows best, which is scrambling around and creating opportunities with his legs.

The Bears have many flaws, but drops are at least fixable.
