It seems that Tremaine Edmunds' time with the Chicago Bears is coming to a close.
The team has allowed him to seek a trade after spending three seasons in Chicago. He didn't play a full season due to injury, but still put up solid numbers in 2025. He led the team with 112 total tackles, four interceptions, one sack and three TFLs in 13 games played.
It's not that Chicago doesn't want to keep a player like Edmunds around; it's that the Bears need to clear up some cap space as they prepare for free agency. If the Bears can find a suitable trade target, or even release him, it will free up $15 million in cap space. (Via Over The Cap)
Edmunds started his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills in 2018. He played there for five seasons before joining the Bears in 2023. Edmunds is a proven tackler, finishing with 100 or more each season he's been in the NFL.
Now, some details have come out about the teams that are interested in trading for Edmunds, via ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants are the favorites as of Sunday.
Fowler believes that Edmunds has a strong trade value. He's currently on a four-year, $72 million deal with the Bears and wasn't set to become a free agent until 2027, according to Spotrac.
He may demand more than that for his next contract.
The Bears are going to be an interesting spot at linebacker for 2026. The timetable for T.J. Edwards' recovery from his fractured fibula is uncertain. The Bears could be without Edwards for most of the 2026 season due to the timing of the injury. He was one of two Bears players who suffered a season-ending injury in the Wild Card win over the Green Bay Packers.
Left tackle Ozzy Trapilo also sustained a major injury, sustaining a patellar injury in the second half.
With Edwards still recovering from the injury and an Edmunds trade becoming more likely, Noah Sewell will be the only starting linebacker who may suit up in the season opener.
Even then, Sewell suffered an Achilles injury in Week 17 that he will have to recover from as well.
Linebacker is slowly becoming one of the more important offseason needs for the Bears as they prepare for the 2026 NFL Draft.
