When to Expect Bears EDGE Shemar Turner to Return From 2025 Injury

After an ACL tear derailed his rookie season, the explosive pass rusher nears a mid-season return to bolster Chicago's defensive front ahead of crucial divisional showdowns.

The Chicago Bears picked eight players in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Out of Colston Loveland, Luther Burden, Ozzy Trapilo, Kyle Monangai, Shemar Turner, Ruben Hyppolite, Luke Newman and Zah Frazier, four of them had significant starting roles.

One rookie who never really got a chance to get going last year was Turner. He was in the rotation as an edge rusher but then suffered an ACL tear against the Baltimore Ravens and played in just five games.

He recorded six total tackles and two TFLs.

The Bears could've used all the help they could get last year at edge rusher. The pass rush was dormant outside of Montez Sweat. The Bears ranked 22nd in the NFL with 35 sacks as a team.

Turner hasn't been able to rejoin the team just yet, starting training camp on the PUP list. Trapilo, Noah Sewell, Kyler Gordon and Keyshaun Elliott also opened training camp on the list.

After two preseason games, we still haven't seen Turner come off the PUP list.

Bears insider Brad Biggs revealed when we could see him return. He reported in his recent mailbag that Turner should be back in the mix in October.

The Bears have two big games in the October slate.

They kick things off with the New York Jets on Oct. 4. Then, they have a massive game with the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 11.

It'll be their first meeting with the Packers since they were eliminated from the postseason with that fourth-quarter comeback in the Wild Card.

The Bears then take on the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 18, before a true test pops up. The New England Patriots come to town on Oct. 22. The Bears will face them on Thursday Night Football in what should be a good measuring stick for the team.

Once Turner does come back, he'll be competing with Dayo Odeyingbo and Austin Booker for playing time, most likely. Odeyingbo has been back in the mix after recovering from his Achilles tear that he suffered in the Bengals game last year.

Booker looks to have a bigger role after recording a career high 4.5 sacks last season.

Whenever Turner comes back, he'll be welcomed with open arms. After missing most of his rookie season, he'll be eager to get back into the edge rusher rotation and be a contributor.

Hopefully, Bears fans won't have to wait too much longer for Turner to make his 2026 debut.
