Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers coach Troy Walters has one of the NFL's best jobs, so it's no surprise that he wants to keep it. The 49-year-old declined an interview for the Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator position, which CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reported on Tuesday.
Walters joined the Bengals as an assistant wide receivers coach in 2020 before getting promoted to wide receivers coach in 2021. He arrived the same year as franchise quarterback Joe Burrow and star wideout Tee Higgins, who the team drafted in the first and second rounds, respectively. It then drafted fellow star wideout Ja'Marr Chase the following year, forming one of football's most talented offensive foundations.
Under Walter's leadership, Higgins has four 900-plus-yard seasons, while Chase has four 1,200-plus-yard campaigns. Chase won the Receiving Triple Crown in 2024 and finished third in football with 125 catches, fourth with 1,412 yards, and tied for 11th with eight touchdowns despite Burrow missing nine games due to turf toe.
Although the Bears have a promising offense, Walters will stay with one of the NFL's best wide receiver rooms.

It has a franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams as well as a talented skill-position group led by running back D'Andre Swift, wide receiver DJ Moore, tight end Colston Loveland, wide receiver Rome Odunze, and wide receiver Luther Burden III.
Plus, the Bears made it to the NFC Divisional Round this year, losing 20-17 to the Los Angeles Rams in overtime. Cincinnati hasn't made the playoffs since 2022.
However, the Bengals have failed recently primarily due to bad defense and Burrow's injuries. Burrow played just 10 games in 2023 and the team has been in the bottom half of the league in scoring defense in each of the last three years.
If Cincinnati improves its defense and Burrow stays healthy moving forward, then it could return to the heights it once reached. The team lost the Super Bowl 23-20 to the Rams in the 2001 campaign before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs by the same score in the 2022 AFC Championship Game.
It also helps that Higgins is signed through 2028, while Burrow and Chase are locked up through 2029. Walters doesn't have to worry about his stars leaving anytime soon.
