Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix didn't go to the same school and they weren't in the same draft class, but they have plenty in common. Bengals assistant quarterbacks coach Jordan Salkin spoke about that, via Geoff Hobson of the team's website.
"You have to be prepared with guys like that," he said. "Bo is very much like Joe. Highly intelligent. They want to know the how and the why, and they're going to have an idea of the defense and how they want to attack it themselves. You have to have high-level discussions about those ideas."
Salkin was the quarterbacks coach at the University of Oregon when Nix was the school's signal-caller in 2023. The Alabama native set school records and led the nation in passing yards (4,508) and touchdowns (45) that season.
Salkin joined the Cincinnati staff as an assistant wide receivers coach the year after that, and Burrow led the NFL in yards (4.918) and touchdowns (43) that season. Superstar wideout Ja'Marr Chase also won the receiving Triple Crown (catches, yards, touchdowns).
Salkin was shifted to quarterbacks coach on Friday, which is back to his roots. The West Virginia alum originally worked as an offensive quality control coach at James Madison University from 2014-15 before working with the signal-callers at Rutgers University as an offensive quality control coach in 2016. He was then a graduate assistant at the University of Texas before once again being an offensive quality control coach focusing on quarterbacks the next two years.
Salkin then worked for the University of New Mexico, the Miami Dolphins, and the University of North Carolina before his season with Oregon in 2023.

Burrow is one of the NFL's best, as he has 157 career touchdowns against just 51 interceptions and is a three-time Pro Bowler. The former LSU Tiger also took the Bengals to the Super Bowl in 2021 and the AFC Championship in 2022.
Meanwhile, Nix just completed his second season and helped the Denver Broncos get to the AFC Championship after getting to the AFC Wild Card Round as a rookie. The 25-year-old has 54 career touchdowns against 23 interceptions on a 64.8 completion percentage, while Burrow is at 68.5. The latter quarterback has three 4,000-yard-plus seasons, while Nix was eighth in football with 3,931 this past season.
Nix could reach Burrow's level over the next few years, but he hasn't had the time to match Burrow's consistency or longevity.
