Joe Burrow's time with the Cincinnati Bengals could come to an end.

The Cincinnati Bengals entered the 2025-26 NFL season with championship expectations, but the year unfolded in far more underwhelming fashion. Injuries, inconsistency and a lack of rhythm on offense kept the team from ever finding its footing.

Quarterback Joe Burrow’s health issues played a major role, as he missed half the season, and the Bengals struggled to generate the explosive passing attack that had defined their rise to prominence. Instead of competing for the AFC crown, Cincinnati found itself fighting simply to stay in the playoff picture, a stark contrast to the standard the franchise has set since Burrow’s arrival.

The disappointing season has led to increased speculation about the direction of the organization. With roster decisions looming and the front office evaluating every possible avenue for improvement, outside noise has only grown louder.

That noise intensified this week when a surprising report surfaced involving a potential blockbuster offer from the Minnesota Vikings.

“They’re [Vikings] planning to offer J.J. McCarthy and Jonathan Greenard, and two first-round picks to the Cincinnati Bengals for Joe Burrow. If the Bengals say no, then they might go out and get Kirk Cousins, bring him back,” reported Grant Cohn of On SI.

The idea of trading Burrow would have been unthinkable not long ago. He is the face of the franchise, the quarterback who led Cincinnati to a Super Bowl appearance and multiple deep playoff runs.

His accuracy, leadership and command of the offense have transformed the Bengals into a perennial contender. Even with injuries affecting recent seasons, Burrow remains one of the league’s most talented and respected quarterbacks.

Still, the Bengals are entering a pivotal moment. The roster requires upgrades, the AFC continues to grow more competitive, and the team must decide how to maximize its window.

A trade of this magnitude would reshape the franchise, but it would also signal a complete reset that few around the league believe Cincinnati is prepared to make. Burrow’s long-term five-year, $275 million contract extension signed in 2023 was designed to anchor the organization, not open the door for a rebuild.

For now, the report appears to be more speculation than substance. The Bengals have given no indication they are entertaining offers, and moving on from a quarterback of Burrow’s caliber would be one of the most dramatic decisions in modern NFL history.

Even after an underwhelming season, Cincinnati’s future still revolves around Burrow, and the franchise will likely remain committed to building a contender around him rather than starting over.
